WEB GEMS- Top 8th: Carlton Fisk blocked the plate, saving a run!

Mitchell Page smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Andy Messersmith hurled a 3
hitter at Fenway Park as the Atlanta Athletics, running on all cylinders,
ripped the Boston Mets by a large 14 to 2 margin.

Page propelled Atlanta to victory. He blasted a two-run home run in the 1st
inning, clubbed a three-run home run in the 4th inning and laced a base-knock
in the 8th inning. Atlanta had a total of 18 hits for the game.

Messersmith(1-0) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Fergie
Jenkins(0-1) was the loser. He served up 3 homeruns in his 3 and 2/3
innings.

Messersmith was obviously very pleased with his performance in the aftermath
of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything worked. My arm
felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three innings. I only
hope that I can do it again next time out!'
