The St. Louis Twins tallied 4 runs in the 1st inning and and the Boston Mets
locked up in an exciting one-run game at Busch Stadium. The final score was
the St. Louis Twins 5, the Boston Mets 4.

Boston fell behind quickly as the St. Louis offense came through in the first
inning scoring 4 runners on 4 hits. The key at-bat was by Garry Templeton
who brought the crowd to their feet when he stroked a one-base hit bringing
in two baserunners. Boston tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

The win went to Bob Forsch(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Forsch got
help from Rawly Eastwick who was credited with his 1st save. Jerry
Koosman(1-1) took the loss.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Paul Long said after the game. 'Forsch did not have command of
his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
