Center fielder Bruce Bochte had 3 base hits as the Philadelphia Indians
defeated the Kansas City Expos by a score of 8 to 5 at Olympic
Stadium.
 
Philadelphia claimed the early lead in the first inning as they scored 5 runs
on 3 base hits.  The highlight belonged to Mike Schmidt who quieted the home
crowd when he belted a three-run homer.  The Kansas City batters went down
meekly in the bottom of the 9th.  
 
The victory went to Steve Carlton(1-0) who went 7 innings, allowing 4 runs.
Steve Rogers(1-1) ended up with the loss.  He surrendered 5 runs and 3 hits
without retiring a batter.
