Right fielder Reggie Jackson ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the San
Francisco Yankees defeated the Detroit Reds in 10 innings 8 to 7 at Tiger
Stadium.
 
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.  Finally, San Francisco
prevailed in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Lou Piniella keyed
the rally when he laced a base-knock.  Graig Nettles stepped into the
batter's box and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.  Bucky
Dent then drew a walk.  Gary Alexander followed next and he delivered a
base-hit.  Alexander took second on the throw.  San Francisco totaled 14 hits
on the night.  
 
Sparky Lyle(1-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Pedro Borbon(0-1)
was charged with the loss in relief.  He gave up 3 hits and 1 walk in 1 and
1/3 innings.
