Steve Carlton came through with a solid 7 innings and he hit one over the
fence as the Philadelphia Indians bested the Milwaukee Dodgers 5 to 3 at
Dodger Stadium.
 
Philadelphia went ahead for good in the top of the 5th inning plating 2 runs
using 3 hits.  Bob Boone opened up the scoring as he smashed a solo-shot out
of the park.  After an out was recorded, Larry Bowa came to bat and delivered
a solo blast.  Carlton then delivered a one-base hit.  Philadelphia out-hit
Milwaukee for the game, 13 hits to 3.  
 
Carlton(2-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2
runs. Gene Garber preserved the game for Carlton, recording his his 2nd.  The
losing pitcher was Tommy John(0-3).  He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 innings of
work.
