Doyle Alexander allowed Scott Phillip to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game as the Texas Padres defeated the Kansas City Expos by a score of 4 to 2
at Jack Murphy Stadium.

Texas came up with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. After two were out
Toby Harrah keyed the rally when he drew a walk. George Hendrick stepped
into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Dennis Leonard then uncorked a
wild one that found its way to the backstop. Sandy Alomar came up and he was
walked intentionally to load the bases. Bert Campaneris stepped into the box
and doubled. Alexander struck out, unable to help the rally. Both teams
finished the game with 7 hits.

Alexander(2-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs.
Leonard(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 6 innings allowing 7 hits
and 8 walks.
