In a good matchup it was the Kansas City Expos 4, the Atlanta Athletics 2 at
Oakland Coliseum.

In the top of the 7th inning Kansas City scored 2 runs. After an out was
recorded, Ellis Valentine began the rally when he doubled. After another
out, Al Cowens came up and he was hit by a pitch. Del Unser then reached on
an error. Gary Carter followed and he lined a single. Atlanta proved to be
no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

Steve Rogers(3-2) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Rogers
got help from Steve Mingori who was credited with his 1st save. The loss was
charged to Dave Giusti(1-1) in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 1 and 1/3 innings of work.

For Kansas City the victory was a welcome one, indeed. They had been
struggling in their last ten games with a disappointing 2-8 record. With the
loss Atlanta now has a record of 8-16.
