22,694 fans watched an exciting game at Three Rivers Stadium.  The California
Cubs topped the Baltimore Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.
 
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  California was victorious in
the 12th inning.  Manny Trillo drew a walk.  Jerry Remy stepped up to the
plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Bobby Bonds stepped
in and he was walked intentionally.  Don Baylor was up next and he doubled.
Steve Ontiveros came up to bat and was walked intentionally to load the
bases.  California rapped out 11 hits for the night.  
 
The win went to Frank Tanana(5-2) who allowed 3 runs in 11 innings. Bruce
Sutter recorded the save, his 2nd.  Tippy Martinez(0-1) was the loser in
relief.  
 
Wth the win California now has a record of 12-14.  Baltimore has a record of
13-10 after the loss.
