It was a great finish at Oakland Coliseum as the Atlanta Athletics pulled off
a dramatic comeback beating the Kansas City Expos by the count of 2 to
1.

Atlanta scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 2
base hits. Rodney Scott led off and started the attack as he doubled. Barry
Bonnell next to the plate and he reached on an error. One out later,
Mitchell Page dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Wayne Gross
followed next and he drew a walk to load the bases. Willie Montanez came up
to bat and drew a walk. Biff Pocoroba added his contribution to the rally
and laced a one-base hit. The game was a scoreless duel until the 7th
inning.

The victory went to Bob Lacey(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Marty
Pattin(2-2) was charged with the loss. He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.

HAL was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about
his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell
you this much - I know how my counterpart, Stephen Roman, feels right now -
and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of
one of these!'
