Paul Hartzell took a no-hitter into the 7th inning at Wrigley Field as the
California Cubs beat the Kansas City Expos by the count of 4 to
0.

Hartzell(3-2) was on top of his game. He allowed just 5 hits and no walks in
9 innings lowering his ERA to 4.54. The right-handed Hartzell lost his
no-hit bid when George Brett doubled with one out in the 7th inning.
California rapped out 7 hits for the night.

Dennis Leonard(1-3) was hit with the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 8 innings
of work. When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Leonard was
lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be
in for a long night. Hartzell brought his 'A' game with him - he had good
stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two
bad pitches the entire game!
