Willie McCovey homered as the San Francisco Yankees defeated the Detroit Reds
by a score of 7 to 6 at Yankee Stadium.
 
San Francisco scored 4 runs in the decisive bottom of the 2nd inning with the
help of 4 hits.  They would be enough to earn the win.  Detroit made it
exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.
 
The winning pitcher was Ron Guidry(2-3) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings.
Guidry got help from Gary Lavelle who earned his 2nd save.  Fred Norman(2-5)
suffered the loss.  He allowed 3 homeruns in 1 and 1/3 innings of work.
