In a close game it was the Houston White Sox 5, the San Francisco Yankees 3 at
Yankee Stadium.

Joe Niekro(2-4) pitched well enough to earn the win. He was reached for 8
hits and 2 walks in 6 innings. San Francisco made it exciting in the 9th,
but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Lerrin Lagrow recorded his 7th save. Ed Figueroa(1-6) suffered the loss. He
surrendered 9 hits and no walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. 'It's a disheartening
loss, no question about it' said Chuck Gangel 'But we have to get over it and
get ready for the next game.'
