Center fielder Mickey Rivers had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Ron Guidry allowed
Chuck Gangel to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the San
Francisco Yankees defeated the Houston White Sox 6 to 3 at Yankee
Stadium.
 
Houston fell behind quickly as the San Francisco offense came through in the
first inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Rivers led off the inning
for San Francisco when he stroked a single.  Chuck Gangel then called for a
steal which was successful.  Willie Randolph then banged out a single.
Reggie Jackson was up next and he bombed a two-run dinger.  After another
out, Willie McCovey was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  Lou
Piniella got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  San Francisco
rapped out 7 hits for the night.  
 
Guidry(3-3) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. J.R.
Richard(5-5) ended up with the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 7 hits in 6
innings.
