WEB GEMS- Top 3rd: Rick Dempsey blocked the plate, saving a run!

Doug Decinces had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Baltimore Pirates staged a
dramatic comeback over the Texas Padres by a score of 6 to 5 at Three Rivers
Stadium.

Baltimore scored the winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs using 4 hits.
Dave Parker led off and started the attack as he singled. Bill Robinson
stepped up next and he drew a walk. Decinces then slapped a base-hit.
Decinces was running on the next pitch and he stole second. After an out was
recorded, Cesar Geronimo stepped up to the plate and he was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Rick Dempsey added to the uprising and
ripped a one-base hit. Al Oliver came next and he ripped a base-knock.
Baltimore ended up with 10 hits for the game while Texas had 7.

The winning pitcher was Grant Jackson(1-1) who allowed 1 run in 1 inning.
Roger Moret(0-2) was tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed Baltimore 3
runs in 2 innings of work.

'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Decinces noted. 'It was
looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it
really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there
at the end!'
