At Cleveland Stadium, the Philadelphia fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
John Candelaria(5-3) finally bested his Philadelphia opposite, Steve
Carlton(6-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Candelaria gave Baltimore a solid outing. He went 8 innings and surrended up
6 hits and 1 walk improving his ERA from 3.77 to 3.46. Candelaria was helped
out by Rich Gossage who pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 11th save.

The loss was charged to Carlton. He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing
just 5 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.
