22,834 fans were treated to a fine game at Busch Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Detroit Reds offense put up 5
runs on the scoreboard in the 8th inning and won by the slimmest of margins,
7 to 6.
 
Detroit won the game with a rally in the top of the 8th inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Ken Singleton who
deflated the crowd as he doubled emptying the bases.  Detroit totaled 9 hits
on the night.  
 
Mario Soto(3-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Steve Foucault was
credited with his 2nd save.  Al Hrabosky(1-2) took the loss in relief.  He
surrendered 1 hit and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning.
