Left fielder Jim Rice had 3 base hits at Fenway Park as the Boston Mets won a
thriller over the San Francisco Yankees in, 6 to 5.

Boston won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Fred Lynn ripped a one-base
hit. Rick Burleson followed and he laced a base-knock. Doug Flynn got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Bernie Carbo
stepped in and he doubled resulting in a mighty exciting win for Boston and
the 33,404 home town fans in attendance. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame,
scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for San Francisco to come
away with the victory.

Bill Campbell(1-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Randy Moffitt(0-1)
was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no walks in 1/3 of
an inning.

Boston now has a record of 18-16. With the loss, San Francisco has a record
of 4-6 lately, 14-25, worst in the league overall.
