The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the Texas Padres
staged a comeback win over the Atlanta Athletics by the count of 6 to
5.

Texas came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 4
hits. Bert Campaneris opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Dave
Winfield came next and he slapped a single. Willie Horton was next to the
plate, but was promptly struck out. Mike Hargrove stepped in and he slapped
a base-hit to load the bases. Merv Rettenmund came up to bat and doubled.
Kurt Bevacqua added to the outburst and was walked intentionally to load the
bases. After another out, George Hendrick came up and he ripped a one-base
hit. Atlanta was out-hit by Texas, 13 hits to 7.

Roger Moret(1-2) went 2 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Max Leon(0-1) was
the loser in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in 1/3 of an inning.

'What a game!,' Moret said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't
believe it!'
