In an entertaining game at Cleveland Stadium the final score was the
Philadelphia Indians 9, the Detroit Reds 6.

Philadelphia had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 8th inning as
they scored 5 runs on 5 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by
Buddy Bell who excited the crowd when he cracked a two-run shot. Due to a
poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough
for Detroit to come away with the victory.

Dennis Eckersley(5-5) picked up the victory, allowing 6 runs in 8 innings.
Eckersley was helped out by Gene Garber who recorded his 8th save. Jim
Crawford(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Wth the win Philadelphia now has a record of 23-24. With this loss, Detroit
has a 5-5 record of late, 26-19 overall.
