Ken Singleton cracked a homer and had 4 RBI as the Detroit Reds bested the
Baltimore Pirates in 10 innings 8 to 7 at Three Rivers Stadium.
 
The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings.  Detroit was victorious in the
10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Johnny Bench smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly'.  One out later, Dave Concepcion stepped in and he delivered a
one-base hit, and an error was also committed.  Pedro Borbon then laced a
base-hit.  Pete Rose was up next and he drew a walk to load the bases.  Tito
Fuentes followed, but he was set down on strikes.  Detroit finished with 16
hits while Baltimore ended up with 12.  
 
Borbon(1-4) got the win allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Dennis
Martinez(4-3) was given the loss in relief.  Detroit now has a record of
27-20.  With this loss, Baltimore has a 5-5 record of late, 28-19 overall.
