Jeff Burroughs had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Phil Niekro went 8 strong innings
as the Atlanta Athletics topped the San Francisco Yankees by a score of 3 to
2 at Yankee Stadium.

Atlanta plated all the runs they needed in the 5th inning when they tallied 3
runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Burroughs who silenced
the crowd when he doubled bringing home two baserunners. San Francisco had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Niekro(3-5) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Niekro got help from
Dave Campbell who was credited with his 5th save. Ed Figueroa(1-8) absorbed
the loss.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Chuck Gangel 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
