Catcher Johnny Bench launched 2 homeruns and Jack Morris pitched a complete
game at Wrigley Field as the Detroit Reds, running on all cylinders, ripped
the California Cubs by a large 19 to 4 margin.

Bench had a great evening at the plate. He launched a Grand Slam homerun in
the 3rd inning, lined a one-base hit in the 8th inning and lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' in the 9th inning. Detroit bats were very productive
in the 8th inning with 8 runs on 6 hits and the 9th inning which saw them
plate 6 runs on 5 hits. Detroit had 15 hits for the night.

The win was credited to Morris(3-3) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
Nolan Ryan(3-11) absorbed the loss. He couldn't find the strike zone and
allowed 5 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.
