WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Dave Concepcion robbed Steve Ontiveros of a base hit.

In a close game the Detroit Reds got by the California Cubs by the score of 6
to 4.

Detroit scored 3 runs in the decisive 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. Ken
Singleton led off and got things going when he laced a single. George Foster
came next and he lined a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Johnny
Bench stepped in and he launched a three-run homer. Ron Leflore followed,
but he was set down on strikes. Detroit finished with 13 hits while
California ended up with 10.

Dave Rozema(5-0) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Rozema
got relief help from Steve Foucault who gained credit for his 3rd save. Paul
Hartzell(3-5) was given the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9 hits
and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Randy Newman said after the game. 'Rozema did not have command
of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!'
