First baseman Andre Thornton had 4 hits as the Philadelphia Indians outscored
the Houston White Sox in 10 innings 4 to 2.
 
The score was tied at 2 after nine.  Philadelphia won the game in the 10th
inning.  After an out was recorded, Thornton opened up the rally as he laced
a base-hit.  Mike Schmidt followed and he stroked a single.  Tim McCarver
then doubled.  Ted Sizemore followed next and he was walked intentionally to
load the bases.  Larry Bowa came up to bat and worked the squeeze play to
perfection.  Buddy Bell extended the rally and was walked intentionally to
load the bases.  Houston was out-hit by Philadelphia, 12 hits to 7.  
 
Don Hood(1-2) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the win. Gene Garber got the
save, his 9th.  Joe Sambito(5-5) was charged with the loss in relief.  He
pitched 2 innings giving up 3 hits and 4 walks.
