21,929 fans watched an exciting game at Yankee Stadium.  The Baltimore Pirates
topped the San Francisco Yankees by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.
 
Rudy May(7-1) had a strong outing.  He surrendered only 6 hits and 1 walk in 8
and 1/3 innings.  San Francisco threatened in the 9th but Baltimore was able
to put down the rally.  
 
Rich Gossage was credited with his 16th save.  Ed Halicki(4-5) was charged
with the loss.  He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 1 walk.
 
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Chuck Gangel said. 'We did
what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
