6,672 fans were treated to a fine game at Comiskey Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Houston White Sox won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
 
Houston came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 8th
inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  Ed Herrmann started the inning
off right when he slapped a one-base hit.  Cabell took off for second and
slid in with a stolen base.  Richie Zisk then delivered a base-hit.  Cliff
Johnson stepped in and he drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Eric
Soderholm stepped up to the plate and he lined a one-base hit.  Houston
managed only 6 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Joe Sambito(6-5) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Steve
Carlton(9-2) was hit with the loss.  While he was the losing pitcher, he
still struck out 11 batters in 7 and 1/3 innings.
