In a game for the baseball purist, Rick Rhoden(6-1) and Ron Guidry(6-4)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Houston White Sox finally emerged
victorious over San Francisco Yankees, 2 to 1.

Houston brought 2 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning. Cliff Johnson
opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk. Bob Watson came to the
plate and grounded into a double play. Eric Soderholm then drew a walk. Art
Howe followed next and he drew a walk. Bill Russell stepped into the box and
ripped a one-base hit to load the bases. Rhoden kept the rally going and
slapped a base-hit. Cesar Cedeno next to the plate and he drew a walk to
load the bases. That was all Rhoden needed. The pitchers took over after
the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again.

Lerrin Lagrow preserved the game for Rhoden, recording his his 14th.
