Dave Concepcion had 2 base hits and Mark Fidrych allowed Randy Newman to rest
his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Detroit Reds bested the Atlanta
Athletics 3 to 2 at Oakland Coliseum.
 
Detroit scored 1 run in the decisive top of the 6th inning when they had 3
base hits.  That proved to be the deciding run.  Atlanta had a chance in the
9th but they came up short.  
 
Fidrych(5-2), allowing 2 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Vida
Blue(3-11) was given the loss.  He allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.
 
With this win, Detroit has a 32-29 record.  They have been 3-7 lately. With
the loss Atlanta now has a record of 24-35.
