Jim Rice knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Fenway Park where the Boston Mets
beat the Detroit Reds by the score of 7 to 6.

Rice provided much of the offense. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 3rd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th
inning. Detroit threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the
rally.

Jon Matlack(4-6) allowed 4 runs in 5 innings, and picked up the victory. Skip
Lockwood got the save, his 10th. Fred Norman(3-8) was tagged with the loss.
He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings.
