25,925 fans were treated to a fine game at Yankee Stadium as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The San Francisco Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 2 to 1.
 
The score was a scoreless tie after nine.  San Francisco came out on top in
the 12th inning.  Thurman Munson was hit by a pitch.  Willie McCovey came
next and he drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Bill Madlock stepped in
and he ripped a base-hit making San Francisco the victors to the delight of
the home town faithful.  San Francisco had only 6 hits for the afternoon.
 
Dave Heaverlo(4-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Don Hood(1-3) in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 1
hit and 1 walk.
