The Philadelphia Indians and the San Francisco Yankees locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Yankee Stadium.  The final score was the
Philadelphia Indians 3, the San Francisco Yankees 2.
 
Philadelphia scored the winning runs in the top of the 8th inning with 2 runs
utilizing 2 base hits.  Buddy Bell opened up the inning nicely when he drew a
walk.  Johnny Grubb stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Davey
Johnson then delivered a single.  Mike Schmidt came up and he doubled.  San
Francisco threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia was able to put down the
rally.  
 
The win went to Larry Christenson(6-6) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Gene
Garber was credited with his 12th save.  Ron Guidry(6-5) absorbed the loss.
 
'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Chuck Gangel 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
