Larry Bowa had 2 base hits and Steve Carlton threw a 2 hit shutout as the
Philadelphia Indians defeated the Texas Padres 4 to 0 at Jack Murphy
Stadium.
 
Carlton(10-4) was on top of his game.  He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and
1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.36.  Philadelphia finished with 7
hits in the victory.  
 
Bert Blyleven(6-7) ended up with the loss.  He pitched 6 innings and
surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very
well.' Scott Phillip said.  Carlton pitched a great game. He deserves all the
credit.'
