Third baseman Wayne Gross hit a homerun and had 5 RBI at Tiger Stadium where
the Atlanta Athletics beat the Detroit Reds 8 to 5.
 
Gross enjoyed a fine day at the plate.  He cleared the fences for a two-run
home run in the 2nd inning and doubled clearing the bases in the 3rd inning.
Atlanta and Detroit each finished the afternoon with 12 hits.  
 
Joe Coleman(3-0) went 5 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Coleman got help
from Dave Campbell who earned his 10th save.  Jack Morris(3-6) was the losing
pitcher.  He was knocked around by Atlanta, allowing 6 hits and 5 walks in 3
and 2/3 innings.
