Third baseman Doug Decinces had 2 base hits and scored 3 times as the
Baltimore Pirates defeated the floundering Texas Padres 4 to 3 at Jack Murphy
Stadium.

John Candelaria(7-6) gave a fine effort for Baltimore. He went 7 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 2 walks. Texas threatened in the 9th but their rally
came up short.

Rich Gossage preserved the game for Candelaria, recording his his 21st. Mike
Flanagan(9-6) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around by Baltimore,
allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Scott Phillip was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
