Bump Wills had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Texas Padres won in dramatic fashion
over the Kansas City Expos by a score of 8 to 7 at Olympic Stadium.

Texas came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning when they came up with
5 runs on 5 hits. The highlight belonged to Merv Rettenmund who deflated the
mood of the partisan fans when he lofted a three-run bomb. Overall Texas
out-hit Kansas City 12 to 9.

Dave Tomlin(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2
runs. Tomlin was helped out by Rollie Fingers who recorded his 5th save.
Bill Atkinson(1-2) was tagged with the loss in relief.

Atkinson was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
