Right fielder Bernie Carbo touched them all as the Boston Mets outscored the
Detroit Reds in 10 innings 6 to 5.
 
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Boston won the hard fought contest in the
10th inning.  Jim Rice led off the inning for Boston when he ripped a
base-hit.  George Scott came next and he doubled.  Carlton Fisk got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes.  Doug Flynn stepped
in and he singled making Boston the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration.  Boston totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.  
 
The win went to Bob Stanley(3-2) who allowed 1 run in 3 innings. Steve
Foucault(0-3) was hit with the loss in relief.  He gave up 4 hits and no
walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
