One run was the difference at Three Rivers Stadium as the Baltimore Pirates
defeated the Philadelphia Indians 4 to 3.

Philadelphia lost it in the 5th inning when Baltimore did all their damage as
they scored 4 runs on 4 base hits. The big moment was provided by Bill
Robinson who came through for the home fans when he stroked a single bringing
home two baserunners. Both teams finished the game with 5 hits.

The victory went to Rudy May(9-3) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Rich
Gossage preserved the game for May, recording his his 23rd. Wayne
Garland(7-9) was the loser. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did
not allow an earned run in the game.
