In an entertaining game at Oakland Coliseum the final score was the San
Francisco Yankees 4, the slumping Atlanta Athletics 1.

San Francisco erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3
runs using 3 hits. Reggie Jackson led off and started the attack as he
reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Pablo Torrealba stepped up
to the plate and he threw a high and inside pitch that got by the catcher; it
was ruled a passed ball. Willie McCovey then hit a deep fly. Lou Piniella
came up and he stroked a single. Graig Nettles stepped into the box and drew
a walk. Bucky Dent contributed to the rally and hit a single to load the
bases. Terry Whitfield came to the plate and banged out a single. Mickey
Rivers was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. The Atlanta batters went
down meekly in the bottom of the 9th.

Ed Figueroa(5-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 1
run. Sparky Lyle earned his 5th save. Torrealba(0-3) was the loser in
relief.

The San Francisco ballclub's record now stands at 39-39. Still in a bad
slump, with this loss, Atlanta is 2-8 lately and 30-47 on the year.
