Johnny Bench cracked a homer and had 4 RBI at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit
Reds belted the California Cubs by the count of 12 to 2.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Bench.  He smacked a three-run homer in the 3rd inning, doubled
in the 5th inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 6th inning.  Detroit
had 15 hits for the night while California had 8.  
 
Fred Norman(4-11) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Nolan
Ryan(4-16) was charged with the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 6 hits and 3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
