The California Cubs bested the Baltimore Pirates by a 8 to 5 score at Three
Rivers Stadium.
 
California came through with the game-winning runs in the 8th inning scoring 3
runs using 3 hits.  Steve Ontiveros led off and started the attack as he drew
a walk.  Bobby Bonds followed next and he blasted a two-run home run.  Don
Baylor then hit a single.  Baylor swiped second base.  Larry Biittner stepped
into the box and slapped a base-hit.  Bobby Grich struck out, unable to help
the rally.  Jerry Morales dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.
California banged out 10 hits on the night.  
 
The victory was credited to Willie Hernandez(3-1) who went 3 innings, allowing
no runs. Grant Jackson(3-3) ended up with the loss in relief.  California
knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 3 runs in 2 innings.  
 
Wth the win California now has a record of 39-47.  With the loss, the
Baltimore ballclub's record is 47-34.
