Catcher Johnny Bench connected with a 'big fly' and Tom Seaver reeled off a
total of 10 strikeouts as the Detroit Reds beat the Boston Mets by a score of
3 to 2.

Seaver(15-5) was very good in the win. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits and
no walks in 9 innings. Boston threatened in the 9th but Detroit was able to
put down the rally.

Don Aase(3-5) was the loser. Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of
Seaver - except Boston. Dale Keener lamented, 'He just was 'on' tonight. He
was keeping our guys off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout
pitcher - makes it a fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were
the visitors!'
