WEB GEMS- Bot 3rd: Chet Lemon robbed Willie McCovey of an extra base hit.

First baseman Willie McCovey hit a homerun and had 3 RBI and Bob Knepper
completed the game without help from the bullpen at Yankee Stadium where the
San Francisco Yankees beat the Milwaukee Dodgers 4 to 1.

San Francisco drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning scoring 3 runs on 3 base hits. Mickey Rivers opened up the inning
nicely when he ripped a base-hit. Willie Randolph followed and he singled.
Two outs later McCovey stepped up to the plate and he launched a three-run
homer. Lou Piniella was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. That was
all Knepper(6-4) needed. San Francisco finished with 7 hits in the victory.

Burt Hooton(7-7) ended up with the loss. San Francisco remained hot,
improving their record to 43-40. They now have a record of 8-2 in recent
days. With the loss Milwaukee now has a record of 44-40.
