The Baltimore Pirates put 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 5th inning and and
the California Cubs locked up in an exciting one-run game at Three Rivers
Stadium. The final score was the Baltimore Pirates 4, the California Cubs
3.

Baltimore did all of it's offensive work in the 5th inning as they scored 4
runs on 3 base hits. The highlight belonged to Willie Stargell who thrilled
the crowd when he caught a hold of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun. The
California batters went down meekly in the 9th.

Rudy May(10-3) went 6 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. May was helped out
by Grant Jackson who recorded his 1st save. Frank Tanana(14-7) suffered the
loss. He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run
in the game.
