The Atlanta Athletics ended a long winless drought and had very little trouble
at Oakland Coliseum downing the Philadelphia Indians. The score was 11 to
6.

Dale Murphy had a big day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning, doubled
in the 8th inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th
inning. Philadelphia was out-hit by Atlanta, 14 hits to 7.

The win was credited to Vida Blue(5-15) who went 8 innings allowing 6 runs.
Ron Reed(3-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings
and surrendered 4 hits and no walks.

Atlanta, who had been struggling lately, moved their record to 31-52. They
are now 1-9 in their last ten games. Philadelphia has a record of 47-40
after the loss.
