Center fielder Mickey Rivers left the yard as the San Francisco Yankees
defeated the Detroit Reds in 11 innings by the score of 6 to 5 at Yankee
Stadium.
 
The score was knotted at 5 after nine innings.  San Francisco was victorious
in the 11th inning.  George Zeber ripped a base-knock.  Manny Sarmiento then
bounced one in the dirt for a wild pitch.  Two outs later Bucky Dent came to
bat and stroked a single resulting in an exciting win for San Francisco and a
raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.  San Francisco finished
with 11 hits while Detroit ended up with 4.  
 
Sparky Lyle(4-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Sarmiento(0-1)
was hit with the loss in relief.  He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits in 2/3 of
an inning.
